Are you fucking kidding me? I’m sure by now everyone has heard about the kerfuffle regarding ESPN’s decision to pull announcer Robert Lee from the opening game at University of Virginia in Charlottesville scheduled for next month. Because his name is Robert Lee. Because people would be reminded of Robert E. Lee.
I made that picture with MS Paint, by the way. Because there were no stone tablets and chisels available. Anyway, this whole thing is ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, I know tensions are high. Obviously. This country is an open would of sensitivity and division. But maybe, just maybe, you should give people a bit more credit. Who are we afraid we’ll offend here? Because if we’re talking about everyone being offended, I’m offended that ESPN thinks that black people are so overly sensitive that they’d think that an Asian sportscaster named Robert Lee was a slap in the face. I’m also offended that ESPN thinks that white supremacists are overly sensitive that they’d think that an Asian sportscaster named Robert Lee was a slap in the face. Or Asians. Or Southerners. Or Northerners. Should we fire the narrator of Mythbusters? Maybe we should boycott the music of Bruce Lee’s brother? No one had better laugh at Mad TV ever again.
11,518 people in the US. I’m pretty certain that none of them are a 210 year old general in the Confederate Army. I don’t know what’s worse, the extremists on both sides or the people that fear and bend to the will of these criminals. This was a great comparison, and I feel like things are going to get worse before they better:
